Jingmai Dazhai is located at an altitude of around 1,400 meters, on the northern side of the Tropic of Cancer. It is considered the optimal altitude and region for producing high-quality tea. Mangjing and Jingmai Dazhai are about 9 kilometers apart, with their ancient tea gardens connected in a continuous expanse, forming the largest contiguous ancient tea garden area in Yunnan.
Jingmai Tea Mountain is predominantly a mixed forest tea plantation, where diverse plant species coexist. Clusters of plants, mixed hardwood forests, bamboo groves, and tea trees complement each other, forming an optimal shade canopy. This environment receives ample diffuse sunlight, boasts a favorable ecological system, and supports a thriving population of parasitic plants.
Jingmai Mountain ancient tree tea includes both large-leaf and medium-small leaf varieties, with diverse leaf morphology characteristics.
The aroma is prominent, with a strong wild mountain character: Due to the mixed growth of Jingmai tea with forests, the tea exhibits a pronounced wild mountain essence, making it the most distinct among ancient tree tea varieties. It also possesses a unique, rich, and lasting tea fragrance. When describing the aroma of Jingmai, many people use the term "honey fragrance," which is inaccurate.
The fragrance of Jingmai tea should be the highest realm of aroma in Pu'er tea—floral, specifically orchid-like. Typically, spring tea exhibits floral and orchid notes, while autumn tea displays honeyed undertones.
The sweetness is pronounced and long-lasting: this is another characteristic that makes Jingmai tea difficult to counterfeit. The sweetness in ordinary tea comes as a return after bitterness, whereas the sweetness in Jingmai tea arrives directly and swiftly, yet remains enduring.
