Every time I drink tea, I notice the various tea figurines placed beside the cup, and I can't help but pour the tea into them.
Tea pets, as the name suggests, are pets nourished by tea. They are actually small handicrafts made from purple clay or澄泥, featuring various styles such as golden frogs, turtles, little monks, lotuses, and ruyi. Each tea pet carries different symbolic meanings—some represent prosperity and contentment, while others symbolize happiness and auspiciousness. People collect them on their tea tables according to their preferences and nourish them with tea each time they drink.
How to choose a tea pet? Currently, the popular tea pets on the market are mainly made of purple clay, resin, or terracotta. Some tea pets utilize a hollow structure, which creates amusing effects like foaming and water spraying when hot water is poured. It is understood that these water-spraying tea pets typically employ a hollow design. When soaked in water, the liquid gradually fills the "belly" of the tea pet. Upon contact with hot tea, the air inside the "belly" expands and contracts due to temperature changes, causing the water to spray out from the mouth.
When purchasing a tea pet, it is essential to consider various factors such as the craftsmanship and quality of the clay. Tea pets with fine texture, delicate design, lustrous finish, and vivid artistic expression are relatively more valuable. A newly acquired tea pet typically has a fresh purple clay hue, either red, purple, or slightly white, with a slightly roughened surface. To care for it, simply brush gently with a brush dipped in tea or water it with tea daily. Therefore, when selecting a suitable tea pet, one should consider the material's ability to absorb tea and the joy of its design. Based on personal preferences, choose an appropriate shape. Under the condition of balancing aesthetics and fun, select a tea pet that suits you best.
A beautiful tea pet is carefully nurtured over time by tea enthusiasts. While drinking tea, they gently pour the tea onto their pet. Over years and years, the tea pet develops a tea-colored hue, becoming warm, charming, and exuding a delightful tea fragrance.
