Fresh loose Pu'er tea tea leaves will often have a grassy, musty odor, which is normal.
After receiving this year's Pu'er loose tea, don't rush to drink it right away. First, process it yourself.
In the morning, open the packaging bag and place it in a clean, odor-free room with the opening left exposed for a day. In the evening, seal the opening again. Why seal it at night? Primarily because many regions experience high humidity during this season at night. Open the bag every two or three days, repeating this process two to three times before sealing it again. This way, the drink will be delicious when consumed afterward.
Fresh tea, especially that transported over long distances in hot and humid conditions, retains internal moisture, heat, and astringent odors. If sealed immediately, these undesirable flavors will also be trapped inside, persisting for years without dissipating.
If you want to try some new tea recently, you should wake it up in advance. For example, if you plan to drink it tomorrow, take a handful out tonight and let it rest on a clean piece of paper overnight. This way, it will be ready to drink the next day.
